MISSOULA - AniMeals is responding to one of its biggest hunger emergencies ever and it doesn't have much time to find a solution.

On Thursday, the service known for feeding hungry animals received the call for help from a Western Montana sanctuary home to more than 1,000 large animals including cows, horses, donkeys, llamas and camels.

The animals' caretaker said the food supply will run out in four days, and AniMeals' director and president, Karyn Moltzen, said collecting and delivering the food is a six-day process.

"They're two days without food, so we have to move and it is big, it's huge," Moltzen said. "We've never had these many animals in this critical of a situation all at once."

AniMeals will have a semi-truck parked at their Missoula warehouse at 1700 Rankin Street, off of West Broadway, for three days beginning Friday and employees are desperate for donations like hay, oats, grain and livestock feed. Moltzen said she has no way of loading hay bails, but if you do, you are welcome to bring those, too.

AniMeals will also accept monetary donations. The organization had to pay for the semi-truck to haul all the food it hopes to collect. AniMeals will be open 9 a.m.to5 p.m. this Friday through Sunday.

Meanwhile the people currently housing the animals are not in a situation to continue providing, so a separate rescue effort is underway to find homes for the animals.
