According to the Montana State University Athletic Department, men's basketball player Xavier Blount was involved in an altercation over the weekend in which he suffered severe injuries.

The school didn't elaborate on the incident, but confirmed the injuries may end Blount's season.

Additional MSU student-athletes are believed to be involved, and a Bozeman Police investigation into the matter is underway.

MSU Director of Athletics Peter Fields said, "Our thoughts are with Xavier for a full recovery from these injuries. We are cooperating as Bozeman and Montana State University Police and the MSU Dean of Students Office investigate this matter."

Fields added, "The behavior alleged is unacceptable. We will not stand for it, and will deal with it in an appropriate manner through our Student Code of Conduct and Student-Athlete Code of Conduct."
