BOZEMAN - It's the first contest of its kind in the Gallatin Valley and for this, you're just going to have to see it to believe it.
216 pounds was how much the winning pumpkin weighed at the Gallatin Valley's first ever Giant Pumpkin Contest.
If you think 216 pounds is heavy, the state champ is a man from Laurel with a pumpkin weighing in at 1, 162 pounds.
The team responsible for the Giant Gallatin Valley Pumpkin call themselves Team Pumpkin and have some advice for growing your own giant pumpkin.
Giant Pumpkin champion Dave Weston said, "Ensure that you pollinate your male pumpkin flower with a female pumpkin flower not allowing insects to get in and cross pollinate with something else and the other thing is to give it plenty of water and growing space, like 30 gallons or so. I think the country-wide champ in California was growing 50 gallons a day before it was plucked."
